VINEYARDS
Milar is a native Armenian grape variety found in Vayots Dzor and other regions of Armenia. The high altitudes and limestone-rich soils of Vayots Dzor produce some of its finest expressions.
A late-ripening variety with thick skins and long, compact bunches, Zorah Milar is the result of more than seven years of field selection and propagation.
The vines are planted on the Zorah estate at 1,400 metres above sea level, in calcareous limestone soils with a sandy topsoil. The abundance of limestone rock provides excellent natural drainage.
As Vayots Dzor remains free from phylloxera, the vines are planted ungrafted on their own roots.
VINTAGE
The 2024 growing season began with a long, cold winter, followed by a cool and wet spring that built strong soil moisture reserves.
From June onwards, conditions became warmer and drier, with a hot, sunny summer, minimal rainfall and significant temperature shifts between day and night at 1,400 metres.
September remained dry and stable, with warm days and cool nights supporting even ripening. Overall, the vintage produced healthy, concentrated fruit with fresh, balanced acidity.
VINIFICATION
Fermentation takes place in rough, temperature-controlled concrete tanks without epoxy lining.
The wine is then aged in a combination of traditional Armenian amphorae, known as karas, and concrete, bringing together ancient Armenian winemaking traditions with a modern approach.
The wine is aged for one year, followed by further bottle ageing before release.
TASTING NOTES
Deep ruby in colour, with aromas of mulberry and blueberry accompanied by balsamic notes.
The palate is fresh and structured, with a spicy character, pronounced yet beautifully integrated tannins and vibrant acidity providing balance and lift.
A gastronomic wine with excellent ageing potential.
