Areni is one of Armenia’s most ancient indigenous grape varieties, with a history stretching back thousands of years.

Archaeological excavations at the Areni-1 cave complex in Vayots Dzor uncovered grape pips and stems dating back around 6,000 years, offering extraordinary evidence of the region’s ancient winemaking culture.

Areni Noir has adapted naturally to the dramatic climate of Vayots Dzor, with hot days, cool nights and high-altitude vineyards. Traditionally grown ungrafted on its own roots, the variety is known for its thick skins, resilience and distinctive character.

Smoky, silky and elegant, with aromas of dark berries, herbs, pepper and anise.

Deep and textured on the palate, with generous fruit, structured tannins and a long, persistent finish.

Best served with: roast lamb, grilled meats, game, mushroom dishes and mature cheeses.
